Complete Dentures

A denture, often referred to as a complete denture, is a removable dental appliance designed to replace missing teeth while also supporting the cheeks and lips to restore facial appearance and function.

Most dentures are made from acrylic and can be fabricated using either traditional techniques or advanced digital technology, including 3D printing. Dentures can be created in one of two ways:

  • Conventional dentures are fabricated after all remaining teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has fully healed.
  • Immediate dentures are made in advance and placed immediately after tooth extraction, allowing the gums to heal while wearing the denture.

Upper dentures include a flesh-colored acrylic base that covers the roof of the mouth (palate). Lower dentures are shaped like a horseshoe to provide space for the tongue and improve comfort.

3D-printed dentures are designed using digital scans for exceptional accuracy and fit. This technology

allows for greater precision, improved comfort, and efficient fabrication while maintaining a natural appearance.

Denture teeth may be made from plastic, porcelain, or a combination of materials. In some cases, dentures can be designed to fit over endodontically treated (root canal–treated) teeth, or they may be secured to dental implants for enhanced stability and retention.

Over time, dentures naturally wear and may require relining or replacement to maintain proper fit and jaw alignment. Changes in the jawbone and gum tissue can occur after tooth loss, making regular dental examinations essential. These visits allow your dentist to monitor oral health and check for any changes in the tissues supporting the denture.
